People Awards criteria

These awards are open for self-entry or nomination. Nominators must provide a short, written entry explaining why they’ve chosen the individual. Self-entries must include at least one written testimonial from a colleague (600 words max).

Entrants can also include one PDF with additional information for the judges including images and/or financial information, if applicable to the entry.

The Grocer Best Own-Label Buyer 2019

Have you brought an exciting new flavour combination to the masses? Have you secured a deal with an extraordinary supplier? Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries and getting shoppers excited about own-label?

We’re looking for the UK’s best own-label buyer who has not only cultivated unique product ideas but can back it up with their fantastic commercial instincts. Successful entrants for this award will be able to share why they are the best food and/or drink buyer in the industry while noting the increased commercial return generated by their actions.

The award is open to individual food and/or drink buyers who work on development within an own-label category.

The Grocer Best Own-Label Buying Team 2019

Does your team develop bold own-label ranges that outsmart the competition? Are your brainstorming sessions filled with boundary-pushing ideas and customer-led solutions? Do you work together to spot what’s missing from your shelves?

We’re looking for the best own-label buying team who worked together in 2018/2019 to create or improve fantastic own-label ranges. Successful entrants for this award will be able to explain how their team has worked together on a project that strengthened and improved their own-label range.

This award is for a team consisting of two or more people working within own-label buying.

The Grocer Best Own-Label Marketing Campaign 2019

Has your innovative own-label marketing campaign disrupted the market and brought in big returns? Has your memorable TV ad delighted consumers? Have you worked on a sharp, integrated campaign that spoke to shoppers on different levels?

We’re looking for the best marketing campaign developed to support own-label products in 2018/2019. Successful entries will demonstrate how a campaign has worked and what benefit it has brought to a retailer’s own-label range.

This award is for a marketing campaign which has been implemented by an internal marketing team or an external marketing agency.

The Grocer Best Own-Label Range 2019

Is your own-label range renowned for its exceptional quality and market-beating price? Has your new range addressed changing consumer habits with on-trend NPD? Is your range winning over new shoppers with improved recipes?

We’re looking for the best own-label range in the UK. The award recognises the best own-label range launched, relaunched, developed or extended by a retailer, supplier or wholesaler in 2018/2019. Successful entrants will be able to explain the changes made, why they were necessary and the increased commercial benefit or brand awareness that resulted.

This award is for an own-label range which has been progressed in 2018/2019.

The Grocer Best Own-Label Retailer Development Chef 2019

Are you bringing restaurant-quality fare to supermarket shelves? Are you always on the hunt for the next big thing to surprise and delight shoppers? Are you changing perceptions of own-label with your food and/or drink development expertise?

This award is for a retail development chef that is developing products within own-label in 2018/19. Successful entrants will demonstrate their passion for the food and ranges they create and how it comes through in their work.  

This award is for an own-label development chef who works within a retailer.

The Grocer Best Own-Label Supplier Development Chef 2019

Are you bringing restaurant-quality fare to supermarket shelves? Are you always on the hunt for the next big thing to surprise and delight shoppers? Are you changing perceptions of own-label with your food and/or drink development expertise?

This award supplier development chef that is developing products within own-label in 2018/19. Successful entrants will demonstrate their passion for the food and ranges they create and how it comes through in their work.

This award is for an own-label development chef who works within a supplier.

The Grocer Best Own-Label Supplier Initiative 2019

Have you come up with an idea that has reduced single-use plastic? Or have you developed a way for your business to dramatically reduce food waste? Maybe there be fewer lorries on the road thanks to a more efficient supply chain structure you’ve implemented?

We’re looking for the best new initiative from an own-label supplier that has been created and implemented in 2018/2019. Successful entries will include details about the initiative, why it was created and the difference it has made since it was implemented.

This award is for a supplier that has worked on a new initiative in 2018/2019 with own-label products.

The Grocer Festive Retailer of the Year*

Does your own-label range get shoppers excited about the festive season? Have you given customers a taste of luxury by bringing great quality food to Christmas tables for an affordable price? Will you be launching bold npd that makes shoppers proud to serve own-label to their family and friends? Is your range supported by excellent PR and marketing to make sure your message lands?

We’re looking for the best festive retailer in the UK. This award open to retailers that have a well-developed festive range and have had at least 5 products accredited in The Grocer Accreditation Scheme Festive Showcase.

The shortlist will be announced mid-October and the winners will be announced the Own-Label Feast on the 14th November at the Sway Bar.
